I've had an idea for a map like this for a while now, but I've just put it off because I really didn't want to make another map that I would abandon because I had multiple other things I'd be working on. Now that I've finished my Chicago "L" 1948 map, I've decided to finally create this. This map incorporates old and new ideas of mine such as those that were in previous maps and those that never came to be. I've learned more about the systems, the city, and other systems in other cities that will inspire this map.
All projects that are currently being constructed or are about to will be included.
Notes:
- Not included in the map, but this scenario also includes modern vehicles, increased frequencies, upgraded and cleaner stations, and a fully integrated fare system between CTA, Metra, Pace, and the NICTD (Potentially Amtrak as well, but that's not featured on this map). Essentially, pretty much everything is better.
-Existing projects added to the map include the CTA Red Line Extension, West Lake Line, and South Shore Line Airport rerouting.
-Some proposed projects, such as the CTA Circle Line and the Metra STAR line are included in this map.
-Some ideas on this map are from the Chicago 2034 Rail plan (https://yard-social.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/20240602-2034sight-brochure-1.pdf) (https://yard-social.com/2023/05/13/diverging-approach-2034sight/)
-The STAR Line is my interpretive take on the official proposal map (https://metra.com/sites/default/files/assets/about-metra/studies/star_aa_final_report_june2012_0.pdf). Since there wasn't a high- quality map available, I had to improvise some of the route and some of the stations. There is also a plan for a northern branch of the STAR line to connect Metra's northern services.
-The CRE is an RER- inspired service that services Chicagoland. The version of the CRE shown on the map is my personal interpretation of the Chicago 2034 map of a proposed rail service named the "CrossTowners". (https://yard-social.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/20240602-2034sight-brochure-1.pdf)
-The CTA BRTs are loosely inspired by some real BRT proposals in Chicago along major roads such as Harlem Ave, 95th St, etc.
-The new rail bridge on the CRE G Line between Union Station and McCormick Place is also designed to help alleviate issues on some of Amtrak's routes that currently have to take a very complicated route into Union Station, such as the City of New Orleans, the Illini, and the Saluki.
-The Metra Rock Island Beverly Branch terminates at Joliet instead of terminating with the main line at Morris.
-All level crossings have been removed and have been grade-separated.
i have no clue why Marktown/129th on the Chicago East LRT has a density score of 702 when it's quite literally in the middle of an oil refinery plant
