First phase is to expand the Skyway, one of the most maligned and mocked transit projects in the US (for good reason). This is based on JTA's plans to expand the Skway, minus the absolutely ridiculous pod idea that they currently are doing. I really wanted to connect the Brooklyn and Five Points communities to downtown, as well as the sports faciluties in the eastern parts of town, which is what the Riverside Line aims to do. The Northbank line goes past FCCJ/Rosa Parks to link to the UF Health and VA Hospital, and its southern terminus at LaVilla will provide a connection to a future train terminal for Amtrak, Brightline, and First Coast Commuter Rail. I wasn't 100% sure what to do with the Southbank, but its southern terminus will connect to another FCCR station to provide last mile transit to those in the Southside of Jax Phase 2 is implementing the First Coast Commuter Rail, a project that has been planned for several years. This comprises three commuter lines that were initially proposed back in 2009, connecting Jacksonville to Clay, Nassau, and St. Johns counties. All lines would run out of Jacksonville Union Terminal, a restored and modernized version of the original station that repurposes the current convention center for TOD. All lines would intially use diesel powered equipment, but there would be provisions in the intial ROW construction that would allow for electrification in the future. The S Line in particular, due to operating on the FEC mainline, would be rebuilt as a quad-tracked line to accomodate Brightline service. Beyond the skyway improvements, future plans include the aformentioned Jacksonville Rail Terminal, a commuter rail line that connects to many of the significant outlying communities in the First Coast, and a light rail/metro that serves more of the area surronding Jacksonville.
