Phoenix Valley Metro

PAX is Phoenix Area Express Commuter Rail System T lines are Tucson-Phoenix Commuter Rail Lines Underground sections of Valley Metro occur on the Orange and Green lines in Scottsdale along Scottsdale and Chapparal Roads, on the Yellow line through the ASU Polytechnic and Gilbert CC campuses, and on the Orange Line underneath the Scottsdale Shea Medical Center area from Shea Blvd to south of Via Linda. The Brown, Orange, Blue, and Yellow lines have significant sections of freeway alignment. This is due to areas with restrictive road alignments due to a significant number of wealthy country club neighborhoods, a lack of wide enough corridors, and discontinuous major roads in many areas. The Yellow Line uses freeway alignments for most of its length to link the many East Valley commercial, medical, and entertainment centers located along freeway alignments that are not easily linked by roads, many of which pass through wealthy country club neighborhoods. The Chandler Tram goes through the only major north/south commercial corridor in the East Valley. The Apache and Red Mountain trams connect two major colleges and many mobile home parks to the Yellow Line. The Orange Line freeway alignment around most of Scottsdale is not meant to serve the residents of that area of Scottsdale, who would likely never use it and don't want to see it, but it is to bring workers from around the region in and out of the major employment centers near the freeway or within a short bus ride of it in Scottsdale. The Brown Line uses the freeway alignment due to the lack of continuous commercial corridors. It deviates off the freeway to better serve the major sports, shopping, and entertainment venues along that corridor while providing a fast cross valley transit option linking to 6 rapid transit lines into central Phoenix. The Anthem regional commuter line uses the I-17 alignment for most of its route to reach the major employment centers in far northern Phoenix and to provide a fast N/S Crosstown express route between the northern suburbs, North Phoenix, Downtown, Sky Harbor, and Tempe. Trams are numbered with an E for East Valley trams, W for West Valley trams, and X for Phoenix trams
