By 1979, The Monmouth County Elevated Railway System had lost the grand and lavish Atlantic Highlands, Red Bank, Sea Bright and Ocean Grove Terminals. With car ownership rising, trains were running empty on crumbing infrastructure. Red Bank Terminal and Sea Bright Terminal came down by force because of heavy neglect. Trains operating on the system weren't fairing much better with trains dating back to 1959 still running. -The Asbury Park Line was rerouted to Beach Road Station since Red Bank was no longer a thing. The also extended the Newman's Springs Line to Asbury Park making it the longest line in the system. The Newman's Spring Line at this point was very busy while Asbury Line Trains operated somewhat empty. -Freehold Terminal, not as grand as the lost ones, was starting to show it's age and the the sharp curves coming into the station did not help matters. The Monmouth County Planning Council favored extending the Tennet Rd Line into Freehold, underground, instead. The stations were not in best conditions either compared to the renovated station on the Tennent Rd and Newman's Springs Line. Marlboro Village protested the demolition of the line leading to legal limbo. -Speaking of the Tennent Rd Line, the line was extended south to a new cut-and-cover underground terminal at Taylor Mill's. A parking lot was built to encourage Park-N-Rides to connect with NJ DOT Commuter Trains at Matawan Station. There are plans at this point to move the Tennent Rd Line to new right-of-way over the former CNJ Freehold Line.
