This is designed to be something the county may actually approve in phases. This is why there is no creation of any new rail or over-ground metro after the failure to approve a light rail system on Okeechobee blvd. The system will use existing rail from the Tri-Rail with added stops for just the PBC Centrail that interline at current Tri-Rail stations for travel to other counties. This is the primary North - South spine. Having grade separated crossing is ideal but is likely outside of the budget and scope. Transit is the priority. Centrail service should be running on a 10 minute interval or less. BRT with dedicated right of way is the most likely form of transit the county might approve, so it is used to create many East - West connections to the Centrail, Tri-Rail and Brightline trains. There are a few North - South BRT on major roads to increase connectivity and have North - South alternatives the Centrail/Tri-Rail. Elevated rail would be a better option but is very unlikely to gain approval. BRT service should be running on a 12 minute interval or less. Local bus routes will be used on roads that may not need dedicated right of way or are serving areas with lower population, but help to complete the network. Local bus service should be running on a 15 minute interval or less. BRT stations should have ample covered bike parking, some car parking near the station and an air conditioned waiting area. These are likely to be in the land use off to the side of the road since the BRT pickup should be center running. There should also be a focus on protected micro-mobility lanes(bike, e-bike, e-scooter, etc...) to connect to the stations. This allows for less stations being required due to the larger distance these modes can connect to in the Florida heat and weather.
