My version of the Ontario Northland Northlander route 2026

This is the original route of the Northlander from Toronto to Cochrane from the 1980's. I used Google earth as a guide to retrace what was left of the northern section of the CN Newmarket sub from Barrie to North Bay. The Northern section of the Newmarket sub was abandoned between Barrie and Washago on September 22nd, 1996 while the southern section between Toronto and Barrie is still used by GO Transit. Since VIA Rail is re-using an old Canadian Pacific Railway line between Ottawa and Peterborough for their HFR project, I think Ontario Northland should reuse the northern section of the CN Newmarket sub between Washago and Barrie. The Northlander would be able to run at High speeds and doesn't have to wait for freight trains. It would also bring service back to towns like Orillia.
