Melbourne Airport Rail 2/Doncaster rail

This is an idea for a railway line based on the Melbourne Metro Tunnel 3 (MM3) proposal, which envisages an almost entirely underground line from Melbourne Airport through the CBD to Doncaster. This line is based on the concept, but modified to include above ground sections and use existing tracks to reduce construction cost. The line will use the future Melbourne Airport to Sunshine rail alignment between the Airport and Keilor East, before dropping underground to stations at Avondale Heights (at Milleara SC), the proposed new developments at the Maribyrnong defence site, Highpoint SC, Footscray Hospital and Footscray Park/Victoria University. The line will emerge above ground and utilise the current Flemington Racecourse line to Newmarket, before dropping into a tunnel to serve Macauley and Arden stations. The line will continue on the existing above ground tracks into the city, serving North Melbourne - Richmond. Then, the line will continue below ground to terminate at Doncaster.
