Goals: - Integration of congested/growing regions like Surrey and the North Shore - Provide more 0- or 1-transfer rail connections outside of the core to reduce congestion, to shorten trips, and to account for diverse travel patterns with minimal branching - Relieve Expo and Canada lines congestion and better utilize the Millennium line as a regional connector - Connect to most major post-secondary education institutes, health care facilities, and commercial/employment centres - Modes: - SkyTrain as metro backbone with frequent, automated, fast service - StreetCars as walking accelerators in established areas/corridors and as connectors where applicable - RapidBus as links between lines, where density has not yet been established, and where car use is still necessary - ExpressBus + ExpressRail links to neighbouring regions or highway-accessible communities (interlined with interregional) - SeaBus + Gondola for dedicated links over challenging terrain --- Plan: SkyTrain network in 2025: 79.6 km, 54 stations, 3 lines (5 branches) SkyTrain network in 2029 with current Broadway and Langley projects: 101.3 km, 67 stations, 3 lines (5 branches) SkyTrain network with expansion as below: 277.6 km, 159 stations, 5 lines (11 branches) Expansion projects (176.3 km of new SkyTrain, 92 new stations): 1. Inlet line from Ambleside to Dunbar (34 km, 18 new stations, 35 min) with branch from Champlain Heights to YVR-Airport (14 km, 4 new stations, 18 min) - Reduces congestion for North Shore commuters with an orbital connection to other lines outside of the city centre - Links more regions with YVR without having to go into downtown - Adds North Shore, Kerrisdale, BCIT, East Richmond, and the River District to the SkyTrain network - Provides a N-S axis in Burnaby and an E-W axis in Richmond - Interchanges: North Shore, Expo, Millennium, Creek, Greenway, Fraser, Harbour, Canada, CapU Gondola 4. Millennium line branch from Lougheed to White Rock (29 km, 15 new stations, 37 min) - Provides central Surrey with direct access to the Vancouver core and UBC - Connect to unserved areas in Maillardville, Fraser Mills, Newton, and South Surrey - Provides South of Fraser relief/redundancy for overcrowded Expo line - Fewer transfers from Surrey to SFU/Tri-Cities - Provide a N-S axis in Surrey - Interchanges: Serpentine, Expo, Fraser, Amtrak Cascades 5. Valley Express regional rail service from Vancouver City Centre to Chilliwack (102 km, 6 new stations, 77 min) - Semi-frequent all-day bidirectional service to connect FVRD with Metro Vancouver mostly using Hwy 1 and existing freight rail ROWs - Acts as an express commuter service to CBD for centres like Guildford and North Langley - Potential to eventually have a through service to Squamish and Whistler - Interchanges: Township, Fraser, Millennium, Inlet, Expo, Lulu, Greenway, Harbour 6. Fraser line from West End to Langley City Centre (48 km, 23 new stations, 63 min) with branch from Tannery to Fraser Heights (8.3 km, 4 new stations, 11 min) - Provide Expo line relief along Burrard Peninsula - Connect to unserved areas in North Delta, Cloverdale, Uptown New Westminster, and Guildford - Provide a W-E axis SoF to avoid having to through Whalley - Connect regional journeys on the Valley Express service to SkyTrain network - Interchanges: Township, Expo, Millennium, Serpentine, Greenway, Creek, Inlet, Lulu, Harbour, Valley 7. Millennium line branch from Coquitlam Central to Maple Ridge (17 km, 8 new stations, 22 min) - Provide Port Coquitlam, Pitt Meadows, and Maple Ridge with SkyTrain coverage 8. Canada line extension from Richmond-Brighouse to Ironwood (7.5 km, 4 new stations, 10 min) - Connect central Richmond with eastern regional centre of Ironwood - Provide a N-S axis in Richmond 9. Expo line extension from Waterfront to Burnaby Heights (8 km, 8 new stations, 12 min) - Provides service to underutilized Hastings corridor - Interchanges with the Inlet line to allow North Shore commuters with rail access to Downtown 10. Millennium line extension from Lafarge Lake-Douglas to Burke Mountain (3.4 km, 2 new stations, 5 min) - Extend coverage in Coquitlam with 2 additional stations to better utilize the Millennium line branch 11. CapU Gondola from Phibbs station to Capilano University (1.5 km, 1 new station, 4 min) - Fast, reliable, cheap connection between major destination CapU and SkyTrain - Reduce uphill bus usage that results in faster wear and is subject to weather - Interchanges: Inlet 12. Harbour StreetCar from Stanley Park to Marine Drive station with branches from Main-1st Ave to Spanish Banks and from Alma to Dunbar-Musqueam - Harbour side tram (5.7 km, 7 new stations, 11 min) to connect branches to key destinations in CBD like Stanley Park, Waterfront, Downtown Eastside, and Chinatown, as well as to other rail services - Main branch (7.7 km, 7 new stations, 16 min) facilitates walkability/pedestrianization of the Main Street corridor to Mount Pleasant, Little Mountain, Punjabi Market, and Marine Drive and relieves the Canada line - Spanish Banks branch (9.3 km, 9 new stations, 19 min) covers Granville Island, Kitsilano, and access to multiple beaches like Spanish Banks, Locarno, Jericho, and Kits Beach - Dunbar branch (3.9 km, 3 new stations, 8 min) provides rail access to planned densification along established Dunbar corridor and connects with the Inlet line 13.
