Special thanks to Asa for taking the time to create such a thorough map of the current MBTA system. This is my fantasy map of what an expanded and truly well-connected transit system of Boston could look like -- a world-class system for a world-class city. To Do: - East - West Line (Boston - Albany) - Downeaster expansion (Portland - Providence) - Greenbush S-Bahn Link (undetermined) Completed: - Orange Line extended north to Reading, west to Needham (replacing most of the Needham Line) - Red Line extended north to Lexington, Braintree Branch south to Randolph - Blue Line extended north to Lynn, south to Dedham (replacing Fairmount Commuter Line) - Purple Line created (Inner Orbital Automated Light Metro) - Green Line - B extended west to Watertown - Green Line - C extended west to Cedarwood - Green Line - E extended north to West Medford, south to Forest Hills - Superfluous stops on Green Lines removed - Green Line - D deinterlined, converted to Yellow Line (2 branches), extended north to Revere, west to Auburndale, and branched south to Needham Junction (replacing the remaining sections of the Needham Line) - Pink Line created (Outer Orbital Light Rail) - Silver BRT removed, replaced with Silver LRT from South Boston to Nubian Square Transit Center - Logan Airport APM - North-South Commuter Rail Tunnel + Central Station (North Station to Back Bay, South Station to North Station) - Worcester Line realigned to North Station with infill station at Beacon Park Yards - Fitchburg Line realigned to Worcester Line past Cedarwood - Fitchburg Line extended to Gardner, becomes Gardner Line - Kingston Line Realigned to Plymouth, becomes Plymouth Line - Franklin Line extended to Milford, becomes Milford Line - Stoughton Line extended to New Bedford, becomes New Bedford Line - Lowell Line extended to Concord, NH, becomes Concord Line - Newburyport Line extended to Portsmouth, NH, becomes Portsmouth Line - Worcester - New Bedford union - Concord - Foxboro union, extension to Providence - Portsmouth - Wickford Junction union - Gardner - Plymouth union - Haverhill-Milford union - Rockport - Fall River union - Boston Surface Railroad (Providence - Worcester - Newburyport Line) created - RIPTA Rhode Island Line created - WRTA Central Mass Line created - CapeFLYER mapped with infill stations at Yarmouth, Sandwich, and West Barnstable, branch to Falmouth
