Changes:
OTHERS - expansion.
---GENERAL----
- The entire system reorganized, with each line to be assigned a letter (T for Commuter Rail, M for heavy rail subway lines, and L for light rail) and number based on its character and route.
- Inauguration of a new rail tunnel, connecting Boston's South & North Stations. The tunnel consist of four tracks, with Regional Rail using the inner tracks and a new subway line using the outer tracks.
- A new transit organization, Massachusetts Western Transit Authority (MWTA), established to run commuter rail services in the state out of the Boston Area.
- Two commuter lines radiating from Portland was added as part of a wider upgrade of Maine's passenger rail system. This upgrade included with the electrification of the Downeaster service.
- A new premium Fare-card system called the MaxCard introduced. Where the normal CharlieCard would only be valid on the MBTA's subway & Regional Express Rail networks, the MaxCard would additionally be valid for ConnDOT, MWTA, CoastLine, and certain Amtrak services.
***COMUTER RAIL***
- Electrification of the entire network (with 25 kv 60 Hz overhead wires). All diesel push-pull rolling stock to be replaced with bilevel EMUs. This new system would be referred to as MBTA Regional Rail.
- The Needham & Fairmount Lines deleted, converted to rapid transit.
- The Worcester line will have a new branch running to North Station
- The system to be reorganized as four lines:
Line T1 merges the Providence, Stoughton, Fitchburg, Franklin, Lowell, and Haverhill lines into branches of a single service connected by the City Tunnel.
Line T2 refers to the Old Colony Lines
Line T3 refers to the Newburyport and Rockport Lines
Line T4 refers to the Worcester Line, and would be the only line to operate into both of Boston's main rail termini without using the City Tunnel.
***SUBWAY***
- The Orange, Blue, and Red lines will be known as lines M1, M2, and M3, respectively. The Green Line would not be included, due to its reclassification as a system. These would be collectively referred to as the "Classic System".
- Three new metro lines to be added; M4 (Indigo), M5 (Yellow), and M6 (Pink). The new lines will be fully automated with platform screen doors at all stations, and all three lines would be cross-compatible with each other. These to be classified as the "NT System" (the NT standing for "New Transit").
- The Kingston branch of the Commuter rail incorporated into the Red Line (M3).
- The Mattapan branch of the Red line Incorporated to the Brown line(M7).
- The Indigo Line starts at Readville station, and run above ground on the converted Fairmount Line up to Newmarket. It descends underground to run through the City Tunnel between South and North Stations. From there, the line curve northeast onto an elevated viaduct parallel to the Tobin Bridge, continue into Chelsea, then descend into the median of Bennett Highway for the rest of its length to Saugus.
- The Yellow Line starts at Islington, and run north to Forest Hills via Dedham. It follows Washington Street to Nubian Square and Tufts Medical Center. Within downtown Boston, the line roughly parallel the Orange Line to North Station in a tunnel directly beneath the existing Green Line. It emerges as an elevated around Charlestown, then continue as an El through Everett to its northern terminus at Linden.
- The Pink Line connects Watertown, Harvard, North & South Stations, and Logan Airport. It starts in Waltham, go east towards Watertown & Harvard, and continue that way through Lechmere towards North Station, the line would briefly parallel the orange line, before verging east towards South Station. It runs parallel to the Ted Williams Tunnel under Boston harbor, and terminate at a new Airport Station near Terminal E.
- The Orange line extended to Needham Heights. The Needham line was converted to rapid transit. An infill station to be added at Edgeworth as well.
- The Blue Line extended to Lynn, Charles-MGH, and Auburndale. The Riverside Branch converted to heavy rail. Bowdoin station would also permanently close to accommodate the latter two extensions.
- Two stations on the Blue Line renamed:
The current Airport station renamed to “Airport Interchange", to reflect its replacement as Logan Airport's main rail head by the new Silver line terminus.
Aquarium renamed to “City Station” to reflect the opening of the station of the same name in the new City Tunnel, which Aquarium would be joined to via walkway on the tunnel’s opening.
- The Red Line extended north from Alewife to Bedford, though only trains running on the Braintree branch would use it. Trains on the Ashmont branch ends at Alewife.
- The Ashmont Branch extended to Hyde Park, with new stations at Milton, Mattapan, and Wood Avenue. The Mattapan trolley to be closed.
***LIGHT RAIL***
- The Green Line's branch scheme abolished, arebranding to reflect that is a system of multiple light rail routes, rather than a single line. It will, however, continue to be marked as Green on system maps.
- A new tunnel added to relieve congestion in the Tremont Street Subway. The Stuart Street Subway would be along Stuart and Essex streets to connect to the converted Silver Line tunnel.
- Kenmore to be expanded with two additional lines and platforms and a renovated mezzanine to accomodate its new status as a major streetcar hub.
- Line SL2 being Converted from BRT to Light Rail.
- The Riverside Branch to be disconnected from the Green Line and converted to rapid transit for the Blue Line.
****BRT***
- The Silver Line BRT abolished. The SL2 converted to light rail and becomes the key part of the “new” Silver Line. The section between Logan Airport and Chelsea converted to light rail and rebranded as the Cyan Line. The rest will be discontinued and replaced by rapid transit.
- Portland to be receiving as a new BRT system (TriLink) to connect its Amtrak Station, Airport, and Ferry Terminal.
***MWTA***
- The MWTA Commuter Rail network consists of four new lines:
Line W1: An electrified service to Worcester
Line W2: A DMU service to Pittsfield
Line W3: A DMU service to Greenfield
Line W4: An electrified service connecting Providence, Worcester, and Lowell. This would be the only line to not radiate from Springfield.
***COASTLINE***
- The CoastLine system consists of two new lines radiating from Portland:
South Line: An electrified service to Exeter, NH, where it would connect to the MBTA RER.
North Line: A Diesel push-pull service to Brunswick & Rockland.
ConnDOT:
- The Shore Line East and Hartford Lines becomes a part of the MaxCard area, as would all future CTrail lines.
- Shore Line East extended to Westerly, Rhode Island, and through service introduced to New York's Grand Central Terminal. However, MaxCard payment would only be valid as far west as New Haven, hence it isn't included on this map.
- The Hartford Line fully electrified to allow EMU service like on SLE.
- CT Fastrak converted from BRT to Light Rail. The converted line extended to Manchester.
***AMTRAK -- Conventional Rail***
- The Northeast Regional becomes a part of a cross-honor agreement that make the new MaxCard valid on the service. However, MaxCard only valid between Boston and New Haven or between Springfield and New Haven, and only in Coach class.
- The Boston-Springfield Line electrified in its entirety as part of a wider upgrade to allow for up to 125 mph service. The line from Springfield to Albany would be similarly upgraded to higher speeds, but it would remain unelectrified.
- Two new services introduced on the Boston-Albany line, which would be known as "The Great Blue Hill", and "The Berkshire". These two services would cross-honor MaxCards for the entirety of their length, but only in Coach class seating:
The Great Blue Hill run from Boston South Station to Springfield using entirely electric power.
The Berkshire run between Boston North Station and Albany using dual-mode locomotives. The service run under electric power between Boston and Springfield, and under Diesel power for the rest of its journey to Albany.
- The Downeaster electrified up to Portland and incorporated into the MaxCard cross-honor system. Portland's Amtrak station would also be heavily expanded to accommodate CoastLine and a new ferry terminal. However, Downeaster service north of Portland would be discontinued, with its services supplanted by CoastLine.
- The Valley Flyer discontinued, being rendered redundant by the introduction of the MWTA.
- A new service between Boston North Station and Concord, NH created (The New Englander). The line fully electrified throughout, the line's upgrade and electrification to accommodate the service coming in tandem with the Lowell Line's conversion to RER.
Amtrak -- High Speed Rail:
- The Acela Express fall under the Northeast Regional's cross-honor agreement, but only in Business Class north of New Haven on weekdays only.
- A new high-speed rail line added along i-90, with shared right-of-way with existing conventional services on the approaches to Boston & Springfield. The new Amtrak service that run the line, the "Acela Peregrine", run a frequent service every day of the week, but like the Acela Express, it would only be cross-honor eligible on weekdays in Business Class.
