This used to be just a reconfig of Metrolink, but the sheer amount of scope creep means this is now a SoCal potential transit map. (can you tell I have ADHD lmao)
NOTE: Station spacing and routing are vibe-based - I have not taken any distance or grade measurements so idk if all of these routes are feasible. However, as far as I can tell from the (honestly crap like whats the actual elevation?????) Mapbox topology map, none of the routes, save for the Alt 1 for the E Line extension, would need to be changed.
I've made some changes from the original map - namely, the NS Connectors have been cut so all segments are unique rather than interlining, which means NS Connector Center now terminates at Upland, rather than Montclair. I'm not sure which is the better option here, but this way is certainly cheaper.
With this routing, the LA Sub and Alhambra Sub, west and east of Ontario respectively, are exclusively freight and can (presumably) be quadruple-tracked. The Metrolink San Gabriel Sub along I-10 east of CSULA would likely be occasional freight ROW or converted to additional FasTrak / El Monte Busway lanes with stops.
I've also added multiple LA Metro proposals, namely the C Line extension to Norwalk/Santa Fe Springs that *absolutely* should be built, an E line extension to the new Metrolink Riverside Line routing, and an A Line extension to ONT.
Scope creep means I've also converted former rail ROWs back into rail ROWs - namely the Pacific Electric Fontana and Brea branches.
