New Federal District

While not a transit map, this is my map of the DC borders if DC was granted statehood and renamed as Douglass Commonwealth. This would work by Congress adopting a bill like Elanor Holmes Norton's DC Statehood Bill which reduces the size of the Federal District to only include the National Mall and key buildings like the Capitol, White House, and other federal institutions. All commercial and residential areas would be incorporated into a new state called Douglass Commonwealth, or DC for short. https://norton.house.gov/media/press-releases/norton-introduces-dc-statehood-bill-165-original-cosponsors-118th-congress On this map, I have closely carved out any stretches that have commercial or residential buildings. The New Federal District would only have one family as residents – the First Family. This would give over 700k DC residents representation in Congress. There are some parking lots and other areas included in the New Federal District that would allow the federal government to build new institutions on federal land, particularly north and south of the Capitol. I've included two alternatives. The army green alternative includes the Pentagon and National Cemetery into Federal District land, ceded from what is currently Virginia. The yellow carves out Union Station and includes it as part of the Federal District.
