MBTA Alternate History w/ Future Expansions [HIDE EXCLUDE GROUPS] (WIP)

This project is an "alternate future" of public transit in Massachusetts, focused on the Greater Boston area. I call this an "alternate history with future expansions" instead of just an expanded system because it includes some projects that were considered in the past, but unbuilt, and would not make sense to be built today. In the universe of this map, these projects (such as the route of the YL under downtown, the Esplanade Subway, and some subway/elevated lines in Chelsea and Everett) were built when proposed, making them historic elements, not more modern additions. Furthermore, parts of the system, including the Atlantic Avenue and Washington Street "El"s were not demolished and are still in operation. All groups titled "Z Exclude" are not meant to be included as part of this system and should be hidden when viewing. System Types: CM - Classical Metro (Like our subways in Boston and those in NY and Philly, medium sized trains on medium length lines with high frequency.) HM - Heavy Metro (Similar to the London Underground, with long lines and high capacity using subway rolling stock. Somewhere between a classic subway and regional rail.) LR - Light Rail (MBTA Green Line in the real world: trolleys with some grade-separated, right-of-way.) Trolley - Trams, or Streetcars (trolley is the local common name used in Boston for this type of system,) RR - Regional Rail ICR - Intercity Rail HSR - High-Speed Rail Networks: CCRTA - Cape Cod Regional Transportation Authority LRTA - Lowell Regional Transportation Authority MBTA - Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority NET - New England Transportation (Fictional intercity regional rail system for New England and parts of the Northeast US) WRTA - Worcester Regional Transportation Authority QUIR - Quinobequin Urban & Intercity Rail
