What if the FRA ran a nationalized network of rails for commuter, regional, intercity, and national service, along with the FTA managing city rail Transit networks?
This map is meant to reflect the system on May 1971, at time of nationalization - essentially at the point of divergence, to be a base map for the future. It will start off with more routes than the original system did, and will grow over time. I won't be adding new commuter rail systems on this map, but will be putting them in where they existed.
I will not be putting in waypoints for all track, as that is a huge task to do just for fun. Rather, anywhere that just has intercity rail running will just have the stations marked, but if there is commuter/regional rail running it will be waypointed.
Stations and alignment may not always reflect things as they were in 1971 because I don't want to bother doing all the research for that. Just assume the FRA did the construction or whatever as part of the prep for taking over.
For metro systems/projects under construction on May 1st I chose to leave them off this map but will add them into the future map.
