I heard Metro-North is going to temporarily extend the Hudson Line to Albany, the state capitol: https://gothamist.com/news/metro-north-to-extend-service-to-albany-competing-with-amtrak-service What if Metro-North decided to make the extension permanent thanks to popular demand? Look no further!
Note: All trains would continue to Grand Central after leaving Poughkeepsie. In addition, quadruple track would be restored from Albany to Croton–Harmon, and would be electrified at 25 kV 60 Hz AC. In addition, all of Metro North's and LIRR's 3rd rail territory would also be converted to 25 kV.
Update: Metro-North might not be going to Albany after all: https://gothamist.com/news/amtrak-restores-nyc-albany-trains-dropping-cheaper-metro-north-alternative Looks like the extension will only exist in our imaginations!
