- This map shows what passenger rail in Virginia and North Carolina could look like :) •Amtrak: - Services & Frequencies: In North Carolina, service on the Piedmont would increase to 8 round-trips and the Carolinian would branch between Petersburg and Raleigh down the new S-Line alignment. This new branch would see 4 new round-trips, while the existing branch via Rocky Mount would continue with its current 1 round-trip. 3 new routes, the Land of Sky, between Asheville and Raleigh with 2 round-trips, the Tar Heel, between Winston-Salem and Wilmington with 3 round-trips, and the Peach Queen, between Charlotte and Atlanta with 4 round-trips would be introduced. In Virginia, frequencies would be increased on the Northeast Regionals with 5 round-trips to Newport News and 6 to Norfolk. The NER Roanoke branch would be made into a new service called the Virginian with 4 round-trips to Boston. The new Commonwealth Corridor service connecting Hampton Roads, Richmond, Charlottesville, and Roanoke would enter service with 4 round-trips (2 on each branch to Norfolk and Newport News). In addition to the Carolinian's 5 round-trips, hourly service between Richmond and DC would be achieved. A new route named the Tidewater Flyer would connect Charlotte, Raleigh, Norfolk with 2 round-trips. - Infrastructure & Electrification: The RF&P subdivision between DC Union and Richmond Main Street Station would be quad-tracked and electrified to 25kV 60Hz overhead power. Portions of the RF&P south of Fredericksburg would be rebuilt for 125 mph speeds. North of Fredericksburg would be limited to 90 mph at the most. South of Main Street, a new double-tracked bridge would be built to replace the existing single-tracked one. Double-tracking and electrification would continue south to Petersburg. The Norfolk Southern Norfolk district between Petersburg and Norfolk would be grade-separated to allow for 125 mph speeds. The S-Line would be built with speeds of 110 mph, grade separation, and electrification all the way to Raleigh Union. The NCRR between Raleigh and Charlotte would be electrified and double-tracked with quad-tracking, where space is available. Stations across the system would be upgraded with high-level platforms. - Rolling Stock: A vast majority of these services would utilize Siemens Airo dual-mode train sets. •VRE: - Service & Frequency: Both the Fredericksburg and Manassas Lines would have frequencies of every 10 minutes during peak periods and every 15 minutes during the off-peak. Weekend frequencies would be every 15 minutes all day. MARC Penn Line and Brunswick Line would through-run from Union Station to Alexandria. - Infrastructure & Electrification: Both lines would be electrified with 25kV 60Hz overhead power. Stations would be upgraded with high-level platforms and would utilize surrounding land and excess parking for new transit-oriented development. Both Manassas and Manassas Park Stations would be rebuilt into elevated stations to eliminate grade crossings. - Credit to Spencer Warner for S-Line Maps: https://metrodreamin.com/user/2fdMODA3slgohHC8drCXiC01K9n2 -Maps Used - NC - https://www.arcgis.com/apps/mapviewer/index.html?webmap=cb02f4f828974670ad01bb83be91b18c VA - https://www.arcgis.com/apps/mapviewer/index.html?layers=0a2de9ef86f34376b0919dacd3f85a0a CATS Red Line - https://www.arcgis.com/apps/mapviewer/index.html?layers=7b9ebabbafd04c1fb3160b3d86c69ba4
