BLUF: the Camden line is cuttable, and cutting that line would free up resources for MDOT - The Camden line *does* go through many more populated areas than the Penn line, *but* the overwhelming majority of it is people in Lauren going to DC - A metro connection to Laurel would be significantly more useful to the people there - Laurel Town center has a bus stop that acts as hub for many bus routes in the area - The northern neighborhoods the Camden line passes through would be better served by an all-hours metro/light rail than a every-few-hours commuter train - The Camden line segment between St Denis and Camden Yards goes through industrial zones and I didn't see a need to find an alternative to it's service - The Camden line is also not the best for getting between Baltimore and DC; overwhelmingly the Penn line is better for that - "But you can use it to go to baseball games" --> not since covid; the Camden line doesn't run on weekends - This doubles as a way to make the DC Yellow line more useful, and to add stops in some parts of DC that are above a rail tunnel but have no good transit - The Baltimore Orange line is also an idea I had when I noticed that the Penn line passes by a lot of neighborhoods that would make for great light rail/metro stops - I opted to make that line metro because it's already grade separated and there'd be better maintenance scale for the existing Green line - Following the Penn line in East Baltimore also makes an obvious extension of the Green line at North Broadway - I had the extended DC Green/Yellow line meet the Baltimore Orange in Annapolis Junction b/c of the next map I plan to fork off of this one - There's also a parking garage/bus depot at that site so there's good synergy at that stop - The former Penn line is also really the only route that the two city's metros could meet without one having to go through an expensive no-man's land - *If* the two city's third rail systems are compatible, the entire route could be one build out - There are large employers near Annapolis Junction that run shuttles; having that station networked to two metros would take *a lot* of cars off i95 and the Parkway
