Common misconceptions about buses
- They are dirty
- They are slow and/or inefficient
- They are only for poor people
- They do not go where I want to go (10% of the time this is justified)
- They are not frequent enough (10% of the time this is justified)
Some tips for a better bus experience
- Look around while driving or walking and notice where there are buses. A well designed system has lines on roads with commercial or residential areas on both sides
- Get familiar with your local transit agency’s website, particularly the maps and schedules pages
- If your agency’s complete network map does not have frequency information, DEMAND that it be included because they know better than to leave out frequency.
- Get to know the line(s) closest to you and where they go and what connects to them and where those connections go (roughly)
- Try riding. Start off with whatever is comfortable and ease into riding over time. Don’t rush if you are not immediately comfortable.
