There are definitely some cities and routes that won't be served/upgraded to HSR, (looking at you, Denver) because they are too far apart from other cities and/or don't make a good path between cities of a decent size. All of this is clearly not realistic anytime soon. I imagine most of this would be on German-style updated lines, not necessarily new built lines. I see 250 km/h in straightaways, with less in curves and difficult areas. I realize there is no way possible the US has the budget for Rocky Mountain or Appalachian tunnels à la Gotthard. Most of these routes are not intended to be traveled over their entire length. In all honesty, trains, even HSR, only make sense to a certain distance, often figured ˜500-600 mi. These HSR routes give the option for those who want it, as well as serve many routes on the larger routes they pass. (EX: DC-Dallas is long. Memphis-Nashville is not, and would be greatly served by HSR.) I imagine some trains would only be scheduled over part of the entire route, such as Chicago-Detroit on the International. Services, like those of current Amtrak, would probably vary widely. Some may be 20+ a day, while others may down to be 3-5 tpd or so. I do not picture any of the daily services, as once again, these should really focus more on short-haul passengers. Station stopping has to be spaced out in order to have a proper HSR network, so not all currently served stations will be served. (Think the Acela: A good part of what makes it go faster is the fact that it doesn't stop everywhere the NER does.) * Michigan Line: (High speed rail, 4 stations) Chicago-Union (IL), Grand Rapids (MI) (would need to be relocated), (East) Lansing (MI), Detroit (MI) * Capitol Line: (High speed rail, 11 stations) Philadelphia–30th Street (PA), Lancaster (PA), Harrisburg (PA), Altoona (PA), Pittsburgh-Union (PA), Youngstown (OH)*, Cleveland-Lakefront (OH), Sandusky (OH), Toledo (OH), South Bend (IN), Chicago-Union (IL) * Lakeshore Line: (High speed rail, 8 stations) Buffalo-Depew (NY), Buffalo-Exchange Street (NY), Erie-Union (PA), Cleveland-Lakefront (OH), Sandusky (OH), Toledo (OH), South Bend (IN), Chicago-Union (IL) * VIA HFR+: (High speed rail, 14 stations) Québec-Gare du Palais (QC), Trois-Rivières (QC)*, Montréal-Gare Centrale (QC), Dorval-Aéroport YUL (QC), Alexandria (ON), Ottawa (ON), Ottawa-Fallowfield (ON), Smiths Falls (ON) (would need major upgrade and probably moving-see how HFR upgrade goes), Peterborough (ON)*, Toronto-Union (ON), Aldershot (ON) for eastern Golden Horseshoe GO, Brantford (ON), London (ON), Windsor (ON) * Gulf Line: (High speed rail, 10 stations) San Antonio (TX), Houston, TX, Beaumont (Port Arthur) (TX), Lafayette (LA), New Orleans-Union Passenger Terminal (LA), Gulfport (MS), Mobile (AL), Pensacola (FL), Tallahassee (FL)*, Jacksonville-Central (FL) * * Texas Central Line: (High speed rail, 4 stations) Fort Worth-Central (TX), Dallas-Union (TX), Brazos Valley for College Station (TX)*, Houston, TX * Eagle Line: (Metro/rapid transit, 9 stations) San Antonio (TX), Austin (TX), Waco (TX)*, Fort Worth-Central (TX), Dallas-Union (TX), Oklahoma City-Santa Fe, Wichita-Union (KS) * (currently an office building), Topeka (KS), Kansas City-Union (MO) * Southern Line: (High speed rail, 6 stations) New Orleans-Union Passenger Terminal (LA), Hattiesburg (MS), Meridian-Union (MS), Tuscaloosa (AL), Birmingham (AL), Atlanta-MMPT (GA) (location nearby) * Tennessee Line: (High speed rail, 14 stations) Fort Worth-Central (TX), Dallas-Union (TX), Texarkana (TX/AR), Little Rock-Union (AR), Memphis-Central (TN), Jackson (TN)*, Nashville-Union*, Knoxville (TN)* (station from 60s unavailable, on wrong line, need a new station), Bristol (VA//TN) * (closed 1971), Roanoke (VA), Lynchburg-Kemper Street (VA), Charlottesville (VA), Alexandria-Union (VA), Washington-Union (DC) * California Line (CAHSR+): (High speed rail, 13 stations) San Diego-Santa Fe Depot (CA), Oceanside-TC (CA), Anaheim (CA), Los Angeles-Union (CA), Palmdale (CA), Bakersfield (CA), Kings/Tulare (CA), Fresno (CA), Merced (CA), Gilroy (CA), San José-Diridon (CA), Millbrae for SFO Airport (CA), San Francisco-Salesforce/Transbay (CA) * Desert Line (Brightline West+): (Metro/rapid transit, 5 stations) Los Angeles-Union (CA), Rancho Cucamonga, Las Vegas (NV), St. George (UT), Salt Lake-Central (UT) * California Line (CAHSR+)-Sacramento: (High speed rail, 12 stations) San Diego-Santa Fe Depot (CA), Oceanside-TC (CA), Anaheim (CA), Los Angeles-Union (CA), Palmdale (CA), Bakersfield (CA), Kings/Tulare (CA), Fresno (CA), Merced (CA), Modesto (CA), Stockton-Downtown/Robert.
