This idea expands on the AAATA's East-West and North-South BRT plans. Let's take the Huron/Washtenaw corridor from the state and build a separated busway. Do the same for Main St and parts of Fuller and Plymouth. Establish hubs at Westgate, Briarwood, Arborland, and the Plymouth Rd Park and Ride. BTC & YTC remain hubs. Every BRT and local route begins and ends at a hub. The result here is fewer but more frequent routes.
In this scenario, BTC moves to Huron & Fifth, where there is currently a parking lot. Fifth is now closed to thru motorized traffic at Huron. This takes advantage of the new Huron busway infrastructure and makes it less important to build busways on Fourth, Fifth, Liberty, and/or William where space is at a premium.
With the closure of Fifth at Huron and the purchase of the Fifth & Huron parking lot, a bus station could be built and private vehicles routed around it, creating a bus station "island" in the middle of Huron. Or a special traffic light with a phase for busses only could be placed there to give busses a chance to turn around, clear the station, etc.
There is a Hub Connector line that runs on I94 and US23 that quickly connects you to the new hubs. Not sure this is entirely necessary because you can get from any hub to any other entirely on BRT and with at most one transfer.
